We all know how instrumental protein shakes are when it comes to building powerful muscle tissue. But is there enough benefit to warrant drinking them even if you don’t work out? The short answer is yes, definitely! The long answer is a bit more complex than that.
Can you take weight gainer without working out?
The human body naturally needs protein intake to sustain itself. Just like how you need to drink enough water, get your daily dose of vitamins, and get enough calcium for your bones to stay healthy. And it doesn’t matter if you are man or woman. Having too little protein in your diet can result in a variety of issues. For example a sluggish metabolism, difficulty losing weight, muscular atrophy (muscle loss for short), poor immune system and sleep difficulties. There are many more issues that arise as a result of protein deficiency.
Especially if you’re on a certain diet that limits the sources of protein that you can eat, getting your recommended daily dose of protein can easily be forgotten. Even if you don’t exercise, having a scoop or two of quality protein powder in some water each day can easily remedy that problem. As well as any side effects that may occur from a protein-deficient diet.
What does protein shake do to your body?
There is no harm, but there is benefit! Obviously, protein powder is mostly composed of, you guessed it, protein! However in most high quality protein shakes there are often extra minerals and supplements packed into each scoop that can benefit you further! Healthy fats, BCAA’s, essential amino acids, healthy carbohydrates and more are typically loaded into each serving of a quality protein powder. Those can all contribute to a healthy and happy heart, sleep patterns, muscular growth/retention, and overall health.
Additionally, there are no drawbacks to having a scoop or two of protein every day. Even if you don’t lift weights! While it’s easy to overdo how much sodium, unhealthy fats, and sugars you have each day, there are no health risks associated with any quality protein shakes on the market. Protein shakes for weight gain (check the list) now are pretty inexpensive and for a couple of dimes a day, your health can definitely improve. And it won’t get worse!
So, if you have any issues like poor sleep, brain fog, fatigue, digestive tract difficulties, odd menstrual cycle or difficulties recovering from injuries, protein deficiency can be a major factor in that. Typically, most people require between 60-100 grams of protein daily for men and women alike. And when a single scoop of protein usually contains upwards of 25 grams of protein, it becomes much easier to meet those daily requirements!
All of this seems a bit confusing? Keep in mind that many experts and dietitians recommend getting 20-30% of your overall calories from protein laden foods.
Is it bad to drink a protein shake without working out?
The short answer is No. If you don’t get enough protein in your diet already, a protein shake will easily help you overcome that issue. Even if you do get your daily dose of protein, the other nutritional benefits packed into each scoop can further help your health. I personally have two scoops every day, regardless if I’m working out or not – and I feel great every day! In other words, give it a shot, you might feel better every day as a result!
